The companies associated with the SindiTabaco play a fundamental role when it comes to preserving tobacco growers’ health and safety. This is a permanent concern regarding safe use of pesticides, although tobacco is the commercial crop that uses the smallest amount of pesticides. Technical recommendations are reinforced by printed material and comprehensive media campaigns on correct warehousing, handling and application practices and on the need to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The farmers are advised to apply only chemicals specifically approved for tobacco and registered in the competent government organs. They are also advised on the need of triple rinsing all empty pesticide containers, and on their correct disposal.
